I donated a personal painting and worked with five students to donate their own work to the annual Twitter Art Exhibit. I highly recommend checking out their work and the various organizations they have worked with through the years. The foundation was founded by artist/author David Sandum whose book, I'll Run till the Sun Goes Down is a wonderful read.

Maryland Art Education Association's "Crossing Borders" Exhibit at BWI Airport.
I was in Espoo, Finland, in June 2018 for an international art education conference. I utilized the free bike amenity at my hotel and rode for miles daily through nature trails and bike-friendly roads. The days were long and filled with sunlight. The sun never really set; it only hovered at the horizon from 2-3:00 AM and then rose for the new day.
I shot many photos on these excursions, one of which included a bend in the road with blooming flowers, water in the distance, and a sign labeled, Viemäri. I assumed the sign indicated the name of a Finnish town.
Later that year, during the cold winter months of Baltimore, I began working on a series of paintings from that trip, reminiscing about the warm days and sites visited. I researched the word Viemäri to verify the town or area I was biking that day.
The name translates as “sewage” or “drainage”; my lovely bike ride down a picturesque road was the entrance to a Sewage Plant facility.
I submitted for consideration to the Maryland Art Education Association's "Crossing Borders" exhibit. It was accepted and display for several months at the Baltimore-Washington International Airport.
