CBS Sunday Morning show
Several months ago I finished a painting and posted it on social media. A friend of mine, a fellow art teacher, suggested I submit it to the CBS Sunday morning show. I have always enjoyed the show and the sun submissions that are included at the end of the segments.
A few weeks ago I finally got around to submitting a photo of the painting. I really did not expect much to come from it but felt good nonetheless about following through with the process. Surprisingly, I received a reply a few hours later that they loved the painting and would let me know when they plan to use it. I certainly did not expect to receive a reply yet alone one that sounded promising.
I woke up Sunday morning on 10/1 and found the following email that was sent the night before:
Good evening, David --
I'm writing to let you know that your gorgeous artwork is going to be on our CBS Sunday Morning broadcast tomorrow morning.
We are doing a wonderful piece on the life of singer/songwriter Joan Baez, and your sun couldn't be more perfect as the ender.
Thanks so much for sharing it with us. Have a wonderful Sunday!
All the best,
Jessica Frank
Associate Director/Sun Coordinator
CBS Sunday Morning
Wow, what an honor, not only to be included on the show but to be a part of a segment with Joan Baez!

Trying to make this year a productive one for art-making. Lots of canvases and ideas ready to go, Trying to find the time is the hard part. Really happy with the oil paintings I have completed so far. Hoping to get many more completed this summer with plans to have another display at Black Locust Hops Brewery later in the year (Nov.). Stay tuned!

These old shoes were loved and worn. I held on to them for years thinking I would use them for something but they sat in a box…art teacher hoarder style, along with other oddities; old skate zine photos, railroad spikes that I collected from an old railroad track in FL, album cover sleeves, etc. There was an opportunity for me to display some skate-themed artwork at a swap meet - Peabody Heights Brewery in Baltimore.
With only a few skate-themed paintings in my collection, I was finally motivated to make something of these objects with shoes as the centerpiece. Shoes defined who I was and how I identified with others. You knew who skateboarded from the retied laces, the worn toe, the remnants of duct tape, or just the brand of shoe. These pieces are a homage to skateboarding culture.
There are more to see in the Available Work tab. These photos are pieces that sold on that day.
